Tonality of the month: PentaPro or PentaNa

The August 2021 tonality of the month is PentaPro or PentaNa, a Pro, Na, and extra pentatonality.

1) PentaPro / PentaNa — short sound sample, rhythmic — 0:46 loop
2) PentaPro / PentaNa — short sound sample, calm — 1:16 loop
3) PentaPro / PentaNa — triple 8-string guitar — July 2021 — 4:36 loop

The tonality of this month of August is PentaPro / PentaNa, a Pro, Na, and extra pentatonality. It is a Pro(gressive) tonality because it omits the regressive quart. It is a pure Na tonality because it contains only primary and secondary natural overtones. Harmonics or overtones are fundamental to harmony. Thus Na tonalities are uniquely harmonious and span over multiple octaves, preferably three or four. They follow the sequence of natural harmonics or overtones and form an arch with secondary harmonics turning into tertiary ones (or reciprocals) and thus lead to more commonly known tonalities. Na(tural harmonics) tonalities will soon appear in the Tonalibus catalogue.

You may enjoy a sound sample loop, such as the one of the tonality of the month, as sound mantra for contemplation or meditation, for upliftment, focusing, or simply for relaxation and regeneration as soothing background sound. Further, you could hum or chant along, for example using HU or another mantra syllable, and tune yourself to the fundamental.

July 2021 Tonalibus update closing note

This is an encouraging note just received from a friend in France who experienced a close loss:

“Dear Uli, thank you for the musical notes. I listen to them in the background when I write letters. They carry me along and accompany me on my way. Thank you for this universe!”

Tonalities on site
Compositions go
Out into the world
To see who’ll listen
Now available to all
A drop in the ocean
So little and small
Into the multitude
Flooding the world
These current days
Of being connected
And at the same time
Separated and isolated
By these virtual screens
While the yearning heart
Looks to touch another
And be touched as well
Manifest and tangible
All the way in reality.

Detach the tangible
Grasp the intangible
Secret of the middle
Listening, observing
So the heart can hear
The call of spirit’s love
That’s always present
Right here and now.

From the I Ching 易經

“For freedom and well-being to unfold in the durable forms of our shared spaces, we have to renounce the tangible and listen to the mystery of the intangible in the middle, so that our heart can be awakened by its spiritual call.”

Tonality of the month: ReachUp

The July 2021 tonality of the month is ReachUp — a Reach heptatonality.

1) ReachUp — short sound sample, rhythmic — 0:40 loop — plays until stopped or you go to another page on this tab.
2) ReachUp — calm sound sample — 8-string guitar — June 2021 — 2:24 loop
3) ReachUp — calm sound sample, expanded — triple 8-string guitar and bass — June 2021 — 7:11 loop

The tonality of this month of July is ReachUp, a partially anchored Reach or harmonic heptatonality. It is also known as double harmonic minor, Gypsy minor, and Hungarian minor. It contains two Reach steps or augmented seconds. Because of the rised one in the lower tetrachord, its Tonalibus name became ReachUp. The tritone and major seventh help form the two Reach steps and contribute to braking up the otherwise pronounced minor tendency of this tonality.
