ReachMin or Phrygian dominant, a fully anchored Reach heptatonality, is the tonality of this month of March 2024. It combines a PhrygAeolian upper with a regular Reach lower tetrachord. That is the interval of an augmented second from its minor second to its major third. Thus, it juxtaposes strong but well rounded anchored contrasts. Among its notes, the major third is contrasting. The enriching, uplifting, and assertive quality of this pitch arises from being one of the first harmonics of the tonic. While the minor second and minor sixth give ReachMin its distinct Phrygian character.

Thus a new pentatonality with striking harmonic qualities emerges that is so far not in the Tonalibus catalogue and at least a fascinating derivative of ReachMin. HexaBluNaReach is the tonality of this month of February 2024. It is one of several most recent additions to the Tonalibus catalogue of anchored tonalities. Its name indicates that there are three Reach steps. The initial one off the fundamental leads to the minor third, and the second one over the middle of the scale leads from the major third to the quint. These are characteristic of BluNa tonalities. Plus there is a regular Reach step in the upper tetrachord. A Reach step spans three half steps, a.k.a augmented second.

HexaBluNaReach offers a fascinating symmetry of individual half steps framing each Reach step. There are no whole steps. This tonality is part of the BluNa / (Lo)Mid group of hexatonalities that newly qualified for the Tonalibus catalogue. From them spin off MidReach and LoMidReach heptatonality derivatives. These are more delicate to balance and use. As derivatives, they are not detailed in the catalogue but listed in the table below.

BlueReach, the tonality of this month of January 2024, is one of the two most recent additions to the Tonalibus catalogue of anchored tonalities. Its name indicates that there are two Reach steps. A Reach step spans three half steps and is also known as augmented second. The one in the lower tetrachord is in a blues mode. And the one in the upper tetrachord is a typical Reach step. This provides a fascinating hybrid of tritone or blues and fully anchored Reach heptatonality characteristics. Besides the two Reach steps, there are four half steps, three of them consecutive; and only one whole step. A rather exceptional tonality!

The tonality of the month of December 2023 is PentaBluNaLa — the most recent addition to the Tonalibus catalogue — a partially anchored basic pentatonality and prime Na tonality. The name PentaBluNaLa indicates that this is a pentatonality based on initial Na(tural) harmonics including the Blu(esy) minor third. The syllable La indicates that the major sixth is present (and no seventh). As Na tonality, PentaBluNaLa pitches cover harmonics in both directions, progressive as well as regressive — giving expression to a fusion of contrasts, of major and minor, of duality into unity.
